Mr. Timothy Maricle joined the Institute for Security Governance (ISG) in November 2023 and serves as a Middle East Regional Program Lead (RPL) in Regional Advising. Mr. Maricle oversees Institutional Capacity Building (ICB) projects across the CENTCOM area, fostering partnerships with defense and security entities in the Middle East.
Prior to joining ISG, Mr. Maricle served as a Department of State subject matter expert, where he addressed complex compliance issues related to Overseas Security Policy Board policies, safeguarding National Security Information systems at diplomatic facilities. His expertise also extended to advising on global intelligence operations to senior leaders and executive staff as a Senior Intelligence Specialist with U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command.
A retired U.S. Navy Captain, Mr. Maricle’s distinguished military career is highlighted by his service in various strategic roles, including 10 years as a Foreign Area Officer (FAO) serving as Navy Senior Service Advisor and Chief of the Middle East / North Africa Division with the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Defense Attaché Service in Washington, D.C., and Director of the Future Plans Center of U.S. Naval Forces Central / FIFTH Fleet in Bahrain. There, he led a team in developing and executing regional military cooperation strategies, enhancing maritime security in the Middle East and North Indian Ocean.
Mr. Maricle’s tenure as a FAO also included significant responsibilities as the Senior Defense Official and Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation for the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, managing U.S. Embassy-based military activities and coordinating diplomatic clearances for U.S. military assets. His leadership facilitated the resolution of complex issues of Sovereign Immunity for U.S. vessels, leading to pivotal changes in national policies for three Middle Eastern countries. His career in Special Operations as a Navy SEAL spans 20 years, with deployments that underscore his broad operational experience and commitment to global security.
Mr. Maricle graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering and received his Master of Arts in National Security Policy Planning from the U.S. Army War College. He lives with his wife and son in Arlington, VA.
