The BG Charles Young Research, Analysis, and Lessons Learned Institute (the DSCU Young Institute) is the dedicated research institute of the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU). The DSCU Young Institute supports security cooperation with evidence that informs decision-making and practice.

As per mandates in 10 U.S.C. 384, the DSCU Young Institute is structured to collect, sponsor, and curate actionable, evidence-based insights and to support its integration across the security cooperation enterprise.  The DSCU Young Institute’s evidence-based job aids, produced for the U.S. DOD Security Cooperation Workforce (SCW), inform policymaking, planning, implementation, and the learning of lessons. The DSCU Young Institute offers a centralized forum for integrating knowledge into practice, thereby advancing DOD priorities.

The DSCU Young Institute informs security cooperation through programs in three lines of effort: research, analysis, and learning. These programs include collecting relevant evidence, answering the most urgent questions through sponsored research, cultivating strategic partnerships across academia to guide research topics, informing practice with lessons learned, developing actionable job aids for the SCW, and supporting the integration of evidence into DSCU curriculum.
