Mr. Eric Larson joined the Institute for Security Governance (ISG) in January 2022 as a United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Regional Program Lead. Eric Larson supports the Geographic Combatant Command, working with partner nations on Institutional Capacity Building, designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating security cooperation projects.
Before joining ISG, Mr. Larson spent over 30 years as a United States Army Officer and Foreign Area Officer specializing in the Middle East and Africa. He commanded the United States Military Observer Group (USMOG), overseeing personnel assigned to United Nations duty, was the CENTCOM Division Chief for Security Cooperation Operations, and represented the Secretary of Defense as the Senior Defense Official, Defense Attaché to Oman.
As the Commander of USMOG, then Colonel Larson trained, deployed, and supervised U.S. joint senior military officers serving on the primary staff of UN Headquarters in New York, UNHQ, MINUSMA, MONUSCO, MINUSCA, UNMISS, and UNTSO. This included intelligence, logistics, operation, planning, civil affairs, and air operations experts. As CENTCOM Chief of Security Cooperation Operations, he supported Embassy Country Teams in executing over $200 billion in Security Cooperation programs as well as leadership engagements with regional partners. In Oman, he coordinated DoD activity and worked to expand defense cooperation and strategic access. Previous assignments also included Division Chief for Strategic Leadership, Headquarters Department of the Army, and Commander, Stability Transition team in Fallujah Iraq, leading advisors for the 1st Iraqi Army Division and Al Anbar Police.
Mr. Larson is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI program, holds a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College, a Master of Arts Degree in Middle East Studies from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Science in History from the United States Military Academy. Mr. Larson lives with his wife in Burke, Virginia, and has three adult children.
